Everything feels different after Emma finds out her beloved and quirky grandma is sick and in the hospital.  She wonders... Who will take her out for bagels and make up stories about the people at the next table? Who will take care of her after school? As usual, Emma has lots of questions. But as she tries to go about her day, the scariest question of all scritch-scratches at the back of her throat, threatening to pop out at the worst possible moment.

A story begins with an idea.  But that idea needs just the right words to become a story that really sizzles.  Playing with words is one way to practice your writing—and it might even give you some ideas.  In this bucket are some of my favorite words. Just click on the bucket and a word will tumble out, along with its meaning and some information about its personality. Use the word to write a story or poem. Please send me your favorite word. I might even add your word to the bucket!
